How To Get A Textured Ponytail

Stylist Victoria shows Living how to up your ponytail game in 7 easy steps. This fun twist on an old favorite will give you a tousled, effortless look that’s perfect to up your day 2 (or 3, or 4) hair.

Step 1: Section off the front of the hair on both sides, clipping aside from the ears forward.

Step 2: Starting at the top of the back section, take 2 inch sections of hair and spray with the secret weapon: Full Dry Volume Blast (now at the salon)! This will give you lots of lasting texture and body. Keep working down, section by section.

Step 3: Gather the back section into a ponytail at the crown. Don’t worry about the top being smooth—perfection is overrated. You want this to be just a little bit messy.

Step 4: Take 1/2 of one of the front sections and loosely drape it over the ponytail hiding the elastic. Secure with a bobby pin.

Step 5: Repeat Step 4 on the opposite side.

Step 6: Join the excess hair from the sides and wrap it around the top of the ponytail, securing with bobby pins.

Step 7: To add even more texture to the ponytail, finish with a burst of Dry Volume Blast.
