In a perfect world we would wake up with runway ready hair everyday, but in reality perfect hair days are a bit harder to come by.
What about going to bed with wet hair? Is it the key to perfect hair? While our mothers always warned us that going to bed with wet hair was one sure-fire way to catch a cold, they never mentioned anything about how it would affect our hair….but don’t worry, we’re here to set the record straight.
1. Make sure your hair isn’t soaking wet
Before your head hits the pillow, make sure to air dry it until its damp, not soaking wet. If you have thicker hair, take a blow dryer to get a bulk of the dampness out. Going to bed with soaking wet hair will be harder to style and might not dry by morning depending on your hair’s thickness.
2. Prevent tangles
Because you move around when you sleep, you are in danger of waking up with your hair in knots or having it be frizzy or flat. We suggest using a few squirts of Living Proof’s Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Protector to manage frizz and hydrate and protect hair.
3. Style in a bun
Instead of going to bed with your hair down, twisting your hair into a bun is a great option. Secure it with a silk elastic or a few bobby pins to avoid having a mark in the morning.
4. Style with braids
To prevent bedhead, consider braiding your hair before you fall asleep. Tight braids will give you tight waves that you can easily finger comb in the morning to loosen up. On the other hand, a looser side braid will give you loose, beachy waves.
5. Beat frizz
Use a small amount of Living Proof’s
frizz Leave in Conditioner to hydrate your hair and ensure that you wake up without frizz. After running it through your hair and focusing on the ends, run a wide-tooth comb through hair to separate your locks.
6. Consider your pillowcase
A cotton pillowcase can make hair frizzier, so if possible opt for a silk pillowcase.
7. Think about product
For straight hair use Living Proof’s Instant Texture Mist in the morning and scrunch and muss your hair to get the perfect bedhead, textured look. For curly hair use Living Proof’s Curl Defining Styling Cream on damp hair at night to keep your curls intact while you sleep.
